Pricing
How do CO₂ certificates and their processing work on werde-co2-neutral.de?
The price for CO₂ compensation is determined by two factors
Creation and implementation of CO₂ projects
Projects that contribute to CO₂ savings are initiated by NGOs, companies, or governments. These projects can include reforestation programs, renewable energy projects, or initiatives to avoid emissions. On the CO₂ project pages of our platform, the project sponsors are introduced in the CO₂ project videos to promote transparency and trust.

Verra-standard testing
In our blog category Glossary of Terms, you will find the comprehensive article “Verra Methods,” which explains all the methods and approaches used in this field in detail. Every project submitted under this framework is carefully reviewed according to the established and internationally recognized Verra Standards. These standards ensure that the projects are not only sustainable but also achieve actual CO₂ savings in a verifiable manner. Compliance with extremely strict methods and criteria, set by experts, is continuously ensured.
Verification by independent third parties
Independent organizations verify the correct application of the established methods and the CO₂ savings achieved. The verified savings are then reported to Verra, which issues the CO₂ certificates and registers them in an official registry.
The independent audit and verification organizations involved in Verra VCS projects are called Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs). These organizations are responsible for verifying and validating the emission reductions or removals according to the requirements of the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). They ensure that all reports and documentation comply with the strict guidelines and that the results are reliable and auditable. Examples of such organizations include SGS, DNV, Bureau Veritas, and TÜV SÜD.

Sale of CO₂ certificates
The project sponsor, i.e., the organization that initiated the project, receives the issued CO₂ certificates, with each CO₂ certificate receiving its own serial number in the Verra registry. These valuable certificates are then sold to both individuals and companies who are interested in sustainably offsetting their own CO₂ footprint and actively contributing to the fight against climate change. The sale of these CO₂ certificates not only funds the further measures and activities of the project but also plays a crucial role in promoting and realizing additional sustainable initiatives aimed at creating a more environmentally friendly future.
Trading and decommissioning of certificates
Since the direct processing and retirement of certificates is too complex for many project sponsors, CO₂ certificates are traded through specialized exchanges. These exchanges enable efficient trading and the necessary retirement (cancellation) of certificates after their purchase. Examples of such exchanges include Climate Impact X (CIX), a global CO₂ exchange based in Singapore, the AirCarbon Exchange (ACX) in Abu Dhabi, and the Carbon Trade Exchange, a next-generation platform for CO₂ certificate trading in Chennai.

The role of CarbonVaultServices LLC and be-carbon-neutral.com
The CarbonVaultServices LLC, the owner of werde-co2-neutral.de, is a registered Verra Broker. As such, CVS is authorized to buy, trade, and retire Verra-registered CO₂ certificates.
The CO₂ certificates offered on werde-co2-neutral.de were acquired through an exchange and are now being offered for CO₂ offsetting. Upon purchase, the certificates are publicly retired (canceled) through CVS on behalf of the buyer. This ensures that the corresponding CO₂ savings cannot be credited to anyone else.Transparency for the buyer
After the purchase, the buyer will receive a link with the serial numbers of the certificates, which is publicly accessible and typically available for an unlimited time. This link will be embedded on a personalized and free CO₂ balance webpage, provided to every buyer on werde-co2-neutral.de. This transparent and user-friendly design clearly and verifiably documents the CO₂ offset, allowing anyone interested to check the information at any time and ensure that the offset measures have been properly executed.
